The Abington Heights High School Drama Society affords its participants multiple ways to expand their classroom knowledge and display and improve their talents and abilities. Members of the Drama Society compete in the Pennsylvania High School Speech League Drama Festival and Poetry Out Loud Competition. The Drama Society conducts the Abington Heights New Playwrights Festival. The Festival gives student writers, who very rarely have the opportunity to share their creativity, a public forum for their creations.
It is another opportunity to give acting students the opportunity to perform on stage and to give technical crew students another opportunity to work behind the scenes. The Drama Society also performs a musical or play annually. Funds for this program are used to pay for royalties, scripts, props, costumes, makeup, set building materials and supplies, video taping, musical accompanists, and costs associated with all of the competitions.
