This is an award-winning intensive arts institute for high school students and educators sponsored by Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit 19. This program is recognized by the “Pennsylvania’s Best Practices Award” and the “Regional Governor’s School of Excellence Award.” It offers summer art programs in the performing and visual arts.

Middle School TV Studio Broadcasts News Daily

Each school day news stories that are important to our Middle School students are written and broadcast within the school buiding by our students for their classmates through the modern television studio equipment made possible through AEIO’s generous grants. This project also utilizes the Weather Bug program to help students forecast our local weather conditions. This tv program better prepares students for the future by building confidence and encouraging student communication skills.

Greenhouse Experiments!

The AEIO purchased and installed a 16′ x 20′ permanent greenhouse structure on the grounds of the Abington Heights Middle School. In addition to supplementing and improving the curriculum for the two new courses at the Middle School, the greenhouse is used for after-school activities. One idea is to involve the students in a program where the students raise crops and run a farmer’s market to learn teamwork, entrepreneurial skills and nutrition. These students also raise plants to sell as a fundraiser activity along with learning responsibility.
