From the TV Studio located in the Middle School library, students broadcast student-produced news programs and announcements on a daily basis. This project also utilizes the WeatherBug program to help students forecast our local weather conditions. (This WeatherBug program has been previously funded by AEIO.) To facilitate the daily broadcasts, students are invited to join the Studio Crew. The Crew is responsible for setting up the studio each morning as well as building the show on the computer and directing the actual broadcast.
All areas of the curriculum are involved, with extra emphasis on writing, speaking, and technology. In addition to daily morning broadcasts, the TV Studio After School Activity program has pulled in even more students to the studio. Through this program students learn the “ins and outs” of writing, producing, and directing small shows to be used in the morning broadcasts. These student reporters cover school events, special holidays, and recurring features.
